Porbandar district is one of the 33 districts of Gujarat state in western India. The district covers an area of 2,272 km². It has a population of 5,86,062 of which 48.77% are urban as of 2011 census. This district was carved out of Junagadh District on October 2, 1997. It lies on the Kathiawar peninsula. Porbandar city is the administrative headquarter of this district. It has overall literacy rate of 76.63% and sex ratio of 947 as per 2011 census. Porbandar district has two revenue sub-divisions and three talukas. There are 4 municipalities in the district.
